Mayestic Elephant (Akokonan)

This plated wooden elephant carries the Adinkra Symbol “Akokonan” on its back. Akokonan means “The foot of a hen”. It is a symbol for nurturing coupled with discipline. This Adinkra is from the proverb, “Akoko nan tia ba na enkum ba,” literally, “The foot of a hen steps on the child (chick) but it doesn’t kill the child (chick).”

To underline this proverb once again, the mayestic elephant carries an egg in its trunk, which remains intact despite the elephant’s strength and size.

Our items are all handmade and therefore every single one is unique. Colour, size and/or motif may vary slightly, which in our eyes is a sign of quality and reflects the artistic signature of each individual artist.
